The first cheese from our new, more sustainable milk flow TUURLIJK is on the shelves at Jumbo. This is the result of a great collaboration between the three chain parties cooperative DOC Kaas, Jumbo Supermarkets and Uniekaas Holland.
Chairman of the boardof the DOC Kaas cooperative Guus Mensink :
“The long-term chain collaboration with Jumbo and Uniekaas Holland leads to further sustainability and added value for and throughout the entire cheese chain, we are proud of that! Participating in this more sustainable milk flow requires additional investments and extra efforts from the dairy farmer. That is only possible when there is an extra surcharge on the milk price. Participants in this sustainability program receive an additional 5 cents per kg of milk on the basic milk price, excluding a 1.5 cent grazing premium, because grazing is mandatory for participation in this milk flow. This allows them to take the next step in the areas of animal welfare, nature and climate and biodiversity. This contributes to long-term perspective, something that is a great asset for dairy farmers in these times. Only by working together we can create added value for all individual links within the chain – from dairy farmer to consumer – for today and tomorrow. We offer consumers what they ask for: a tasty, more sustainable cheese from Dutch soil.
And now the cheese from this new, more sustainable milk flow is on the shelves at Jumbo. A special moment for our cooperative DOC Kaas. The cheese from this milk flows in gradually. We start with the young matured cheese and as the cheese ripens further in the warehouses, the old cheese will eventually be found on the Jumbo shelves. So please be patient for those who love the more spicy, old cheese.”
